(5) Introduction to spreads
In this lesson we cover a LOT of essential basics, including a long dissertation on how spreads are organizational charts. This is essential to get deep into your head as there is so much fluff and needless superstition about the tarot that people romanticize the idea of spreads to the point of absurdity. Spreads are your best friend when it comes to the tarot. Spreads make everything easier to decipher. Spreads tell you what your card means. You can't get that from random cards that fly out of the deck, or having your client pull a card and telling them what that card (generically) means and forcing them to try to apply it to their life. If you ever want to play in the big leagues you need to know spreads and use them. So before we go into the levels of information you can pull from your cards using spreads we have to have a lesson on what they are and how to prepare yourself for each one you cast.
Please note: Your homework this week is to actually cast spreads. A few students in this recording have not been doing their homework and they were caught off guard that they were surprised that they were supposed to do spreads with their entire decks. By now you should be familiar with the exercises and have practice with them. You should also have a decent grasp of what cards can mean in a real-life situation. Don;t worry about the accuracy of your spreads right now. Just practice various 1-, 2-, and 3-card blob spreads to get a feel of the process. Practice what you learn in this video (talk to your client, ask a question, shuffle, deal) until you feel comfortable with the basic process. Next week we will add complexities, so you need to get hands-on time with your cards now.
What do you think?
Please remember to post your thoughts in the forums. This is where you can practice the exercises, get in a study group, ask questions, and find meet-ups (as they happen).
